Hello guys!
It's that time of the week again, and today's blog is about our gig at The Hope Hoot.
On 22 April 2023, we had the chance to help support and raise money for two charities, Allergy and Anaphylaxis UK, at The annual Hope Hootenanny.
The show was in memory of Liam's friend Ruben, who sadly lost his life to anaphylaxis a few years ago.
The event took place at the amazing Blackheath Halls. We had a great time and it was amazing to see everyone coming together for this good cause.
So let's tell you all about it.
First let's tell you a little about Allergy UK and Anaphylaxis UK.
It is estimated that 41 million people in the UK live with allergic disease. But there remains a huge gap in healthcare services for those affected by this disease of the immune system.
The aim of Allergy UK is to raise the profile of allergy at all levels, with a vision for everyone affected by allergy to receive the best possible care and support. They are the leading national patient charity for people living with all types of allergy.
And Anaphylaxis UK (formerly Anaphylaxis Campaign prior to July 2022) has been supporting people living with serious allergies as a charity for over 25 years, offering evidence-based information for individuals and their families, for businesses and for schools and other places of education.
After a nationwide three-year hiatus, The Hope Hoot returned, to raise money and awareness for both of these charities.
Once again the event honoured the memory of local schoolboy, Liam's friend, Ruben Bouquet, who tragically lost his life in 2019 to an allergic reaction.
And it was an amazing night of comedy, entertainment and a lot of music, in the astonishing Blackheath Halls.
Blackheath Halls is a performance venue presenting a diverse programme of events throughout the year. A registered charity since 1983, the beautiful historic building sits at the heart of Blackheath, a lovely little neighbourhood in South East London.
As well as the live events programme they also run an outstanding popular community engagement programme for people of all ages including a youth choir, orchestra and gospel chorus as well as one of the biggest annual projects, the annual Blackheath Halls Community Opera.
It was an honour and a privilege for us to be a part of this event.
A big thank you to all involved!
Special thanks to Tamsin and John Schwab.
A big shout out to all the other performers who were there that night: The Reduced Shakespeare Company, The Ukeladeez, AJ Wander, The Military Wives Choir (Brompton and Invicta), Jack Schwab, Gene Morrissey, Pamela Blair (Beauty and the Beast, Curtains), The Ambassadors of Sound and Polly Paulusm.
Most of the artists appearing have direct connections with dealing with allergies and were all happy to be sharing the stage with each other for such an important cause.
Last but not least, the evening was MC’d by award-winning comedian Brandon Burke.
We played a set of originals and we had a great time interacting with all the guests afterwards.
